Minjee Lee Triumphs at KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Claims Third Major Title in Dramatic Fashion

Australia’s Minjee Lee sealed her place among golf’s elite by capturing her third career major title at the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, held at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco. Battling firm greens and blustery winds, Lee posted a final-round 2-over 74 to win by three strokes over rising stars Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen, securing her first LPGA Tour victory since 2023.

The 29-year-old Dallas-area resident displayed nerves of steel down the stretch, responding to mounting pressure with critical birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. Her composure on the closing holes—despite a bogey on the 16th—helped her finish at 4-under for the tournament, earning her 11th LPGA Tour win and placing her one major victory shy of completing the coveted Career Grand Slam.

“It feels pretty amazing,” said Lee. “I feel like I really deserve this one. I put a lot of hard work into it. I feel really good.”

Lee entered the final round with a four-shot cushion over Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, and while early bogeys briefly narrowed her lead, no one could ultimately catch the Australian. As the final groups shuffled the leaderboard behind her, Lee remained steady, highlighted by a crucial par save on the 13th hole and an up-and-down birdie on the short 15th that gave her breathing room.

Her win places her in an exclusive club—she becomes the fourth Australian woman to win the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, joining Hannah Green, Jan Stephenson, and Karrie Webb, and only the third Australian to win three or more major championships on the LPGA Tour, alongside legends Webb (7) and Stephenson (3).

“All of them are such great golfers, great careers,” Lee reflected while looking at the trophy. “It’s great to have my name up with them. It’s pretty cool.”

Lee’s win was met with jubilant celebration on the 18th green, as close friend and 2019 champion Hannah Green joined other players in dousing her with champagne.

“She’s obviously proved herself with her new putter. She’s putted amazing this week,” said Green. “It was a really tough week, mentally more than physically… super proud of her.”

Meanwhile, both Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen closed with impressive 4-under 68s—tying the lowest round of the tournament—and finished tied for second at 1-under overall, marking career-best finishes in a major for both players.

“The course is playing really, really tough, but I feel like this week my team and I were very locked in,” said Kim. “The result took care of itself.”

Thitikul and Japan’s Chisato Iwai shared fourth place, while Miyu Yamashita and Angel Yin tied for sixth. South Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi and Somi Lee tied for eighth, and Wei-Ling Hsu and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard rounded out the top ten.

Defending champion Amy Yang missed the cut.

With her win at Fields Ranch East, Lee has not only reaffirmed her status as one of the game’s premier talents but also ignited fresh hopes for a Grand Slam run. And for Australian golf fans, the victory was especially sweet—another major moment for a champion who continues to rise.
