Mike Myers Unleashes Dr. Evil Vibes as Elon Musk on SNL, Throws ‘Elbows Up’ at Trump Tariffs

Mike Myers brought his Scarborough swagger back to “Saturday Night Live” on March 8, slipping into Elon Musk’s Tesla-sized shoes for a cold open that had viewers cackling—and Canadians cheering. The skit, part of SNL’s 50th anniversary run, saw Myers channel his inner Dr. Evil while spoofing the billionaire’s latest White House antics.

The “Trump, Musk and Rubio Cold Open” featured Myers as Musk, the self-styled head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), clashing with Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernández) under the watchful eye of Trump (James Austin Johnson). Ripped from a New York Times scoop about a real-life cabinet shouting match, the skit poked fun at Musk’s growing influence—and the chaos over who’s really calling the shots in D.C.

“Hi, it’s me: tech support. Hahaha, just kidding!” Myers quipped as Musk, strutting onto the stage. Later, he unleashed his Austin Powers alter ego, musing in a Dr. Evil drawl: “Phase 1 is complete—ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media.” Pinky to mouth, he added, “Tesla’s stock is crashing, and my net worth just dropped 100 billion dollars,” nailing the meme-worthy moment.

It’s Myers’ second go at playing Musk this season, following a recent stint where he rocked a “Canada is not for sale” shirt. This time, he skipped the wardrobe flex but mouthed “elbows up” during the credits, flashing a bent elbow—a hockey-inspired jab at Trump’s tariffs and his 51st-state daydreams.

The Scarborough-born SNL alum, a fan favorite from 1989 to 1995 with classics like “Wayne’s World” and “Coffee Talk,” hasn’t lost his edge. Saturday’s show doubled down on the Canada-U.S. feud, with Weekend Update’s Colin Jost roasting “syrup-guzzling, poutine-munching” Canadians for “stealing American sketch comedy jobs.” Michael Che chimed in, noting Trump’s paused tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports.

Under the watch of Toronto native Lorne Michaels, SNL’s 50th year is proving it can still skewer headlines—and flex some cross-border pride. Myers’ “elbows up” salute? A subtle stick-it-to-’em moment for the True North.
