Mail on the Line: Canada Post Union to Deliver Key Update Amid Stalled Talks

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. ET today to update Canadians on the prolonged contract negotiations with Canada Post. The union says it will use the briefing to counter what it calls “misinformation” about the bargaining process, which has dragged on for more than 18 months.

In late August, the union presented a counteroffer seeking higher wages while allowing flexibility for part-time workers. Canada Post has yet to formally respond but continues to warn that its “dire financial realities” must be reflected in any agreement. The Crown corporation says ongoing labour uncertainty is costing millions of dollars daily and undermining public confidence.

Postal workers have been under an overtime ban since late May, though they have not staged a strike since the government intervened during last year’s holiday season. With mail delivery already strained, today’s update could determine whether Canadians are headed toward a breakthrough—or a new wave of disruptions.
