Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have renewed their multi-year deal with Netflix, but industry insiders suggest the move is less about new creative momentum and more about fulfilling obligations tied to the couple’s original $100 million (£75m) contract signed in 2020.
According to a source speaking to Express.co.uk, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “already pocketed the money” from their first agreement, with only their docuseries Harry & Meghan emerging as a major success. While the couple has delivered other projects — including Meghan’s lifestyle cooking series With Love, Meghan — audience figures for the show’s debut season failed to break into Netflix’s top 300 in the first half of 2025, drawing 5.3 million views.
Netflix, having heavily invested, reportedly “still needed content from them,” prompting a new contract to ensure delivery on agreed productions. Upcoming releases include With Love, Meghan season two, a Christmas special filmed in Montecito, and Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within, a documentary about an inspirational Ugandan orphanage.
Despite the mixed performance, Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria praised the Sussexes as “influential voices” with work that “resonates with audiences everywhere,” noting the record-breaking viewership of Harry & Meghan.
