Separatist slogans supporting a Sikh homeland were raised at an event attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Relations between India and Canada were already strained due to allegations of Indian involvement in the 2023 murder of a Canadian citizen. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed “deep concern and strong protest” over the incident.

The Canadian government has not yet responded to the protest.

The Indian government remains vigilant in protecting its sovereignty and will continue to address issues that affect its national interest.
