Hyundai Recalls 13,000 Santa Fe SUVs in Canada Over Fire and Injury Risk

Hyundai is recalling more than 13,000 Santa Fe SUVs across Canada due to a defect that could increase the risk of fire and injury, Transport Canada announced this week.

The recall affects 2024 and 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe models, with 13,153 vehicles identified in Canada. Officials say the issue stems from a starter motor terminal cover that may not have been installed properly during manufacturing.

“If the positive terminal is exposed and comes into contact with nearby components during a crash, it could lead to a short circuit,” Transport Canada warned in its notice. “A short circuit could create the risk of a fire and/or injury.”

Hyundai will notify affected vehicle owners by mail and instruct them to bring their SUVs to a dealership. Technicians will inspect the starter motor and, if necessary, reinstall the positive terminal cover to correct the issue.

The automaker advises owners to follow the recall instructions as soon as they receive them to ensure their vehicles meet safety standards.
