BRAMPTON, ON – August 21, 2025 – A sold-out crowd at the CAA Centre witnessed more than just a thrilling hockey game last night as Mayor Patrick Brown’s fourth annual Hockey Night in Brampton raised $6,670,000 for the William Osler Health System and Brampton’s much-needed second hospital. The event’s impact reached historic levels with the Cortellucci Family announcing a record-breaking $50 million pledge to the William Osler Health System Foundation — the largest single donation in Brampton’s history and the biggest ever to Osler.
Fans cheered as Team Matthews, coached by Darryl Sittler, faced off against Team Tanev, led by Wendel Clark, in a spirited charity game that ended in a narrow 10–9 victory for Team Tanev. NHL stars, hockey legends, and the community came together for a night that showcased both the sport’s excitement and Brampton’s generosity.
The City of Brampton extended thanks to its presenting sponsor 407 ETR, as well as changemaker sponsors Argo Development, Paradise Homes, Regency Homes, Liuna, DG Group, Charger Logistics, Great Gulf, Capital Power, and numerous community partners whose contributions made the evening possible. Additional support came from Rogers, Policaro BMW, AFA Systems, Juel Group, Amazon, CN, Ballantry Homes, Choice Properties, NADG, Orlando Corporation, Tribute Communities, Blackthorn Development, and Tacc Holborn Group.
Mayor Patrick Brown praised the achievement:
“Hockey Night in Brampton continues to grow each year, and this year’s event was an outstanding celebration of hockey, community and generosity. I want to sincerely thank the residents of Brampton for their support in raising $6,670,000, as well as the Cortellucci family for their historic $50 million pledge. Together, we’ve once again shown what we can achieve when we rally behind a cause that matters to us all.”
Ken Mayhew, President & CEO of the William Osler Health System Foundation, called the pledge transformational:
“Thanks to Mayor Brown, City Council, the fans, and the extraordinary gift from the Cortel Group and the Cortellucci family — the largest in Osler’s history — we’re one step closer to building our second hospital and delivering the health care Brampton deserves.”
Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO of William Osler Health System, echoed the gratitude:
“Hockey Night in Brampton is a shining example of our community’s commitment to world-class health care. The Cortellucci family’s $50 million donation is helping transform health care for our city. Together, we’re making the new Peel Memorial Hospital a reality.”
With $6.67 million raised this year and a landmark $50 million pledge secured, Hockey Night in Brampton has solidified its place as the largest and most impactful community charity hockey game in Canada — bringing Brampton closer than ever to achieving its vision for a second hospital.
