Health Alert: Jean Perrin Cheeses Recalled Over Potentially Deadly E. coli Risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a nationwide recall of two Jean Perrin cheese varieties after detecting a possible pathogenic E. coli contamination. The affected products include Jean Perrin Morbey de Scey and Raclette de Scey cheeses, with expiration dates noted as June 3 and October 3, respectively.

The recall covers distribution in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, and potentially other provinces and territories. Authorities have also warned that smaller package sizes—sold with inconsistent labeling and variable expiration dates—may be affected.

Consumers are urged not to consume, use, serve, or distribute these products. If you have purchased any of the recalled cheeses, please discard them immediately or contact the retailer where they were purchased for further guidance.

While contaminated food may not display any obvious signs of spoilage, ingestion of pathogenic E. coli can lead to symptoms ranging from nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps to watery or bloody diarrhea. In severe cases, individuals might experience seizures, strokes, or require emergency treatments such as blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. There is also a risk of permanent kidney damage or death.
