GPS Misguidance Leads Semi-Truck into Osoyoos Marina

A semi-truck driver found himself in a precarious situation after his GPS led him down a boat ramp into Osoyoos Lake early Saturday morning. The incident occurred at the Osoyoos Boat Launch and Marina, where the red semi-truck cab was nearly submerged.

At around 4:20 AM, Osoyoos RCMP, accompanied by Osoyoos Fire Rescue, responded to the scene to aid the 54-year-old driver from Surrey, who found himself trapped in the truck’s cab. According to the police, the driver was following his GPS instructions which, due to a critical error, directed him to descend the boat ramp into the lake.

Visibility issues compounded by the early morning darkness prevented the driver from recognizing the error until it was too late. Fortunately, he was rescued by local fire crews who swam out to his vehicle. Thankfully, both the driver and the truck were not completely submerged, and the driver escaped without injury.

This unusual event serves as a stark reminder of the potential pitfalls of over-reliance on GPS navigation, particularly in less familiar areas.
