The Government of Canada is proud to announce the launch of Alto, a groundbreaking high-speed rail network set to revolutionize transportation in the Toronto–Quebec City corridor. This 1,000-kilometer fully electric system will connect major urban centers, including Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières, and Quebec City, with trains traveling at speeds up to 300 km/h. This initiative is poised to significantly reduce travel times, stimulate job creation, enhance productivity, and contribute to substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “Alto represents the largest infrastructure project in Canadian history, underscoring our commitment to building a sustainable and prosperous future for all Canadians.”
The federal government has allocated CA$3.9 billion for the design and development phase over the next six years. The Cadence consortium, comprising CPDQ Infra, AtkinsRéalis (formerly SNC-Lavalin), Systra Canada, Keolis Canada, Air Canada, and SNCF Voyageurs S.A., has been selected to co-design, build, finance, operate, and maintain this state-of-the-art railway.

The Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, remarked, “Alto is more than a transportation project; it’s a catalyst for economic growth and social cohesion. By connecting our communities more efficiently, we’re fostering inclusivity and opportunity for all Canadians.”
Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, added, “This project will have a profound impact on our region, creating jobs and providing residents with faster, greener travel options. It’s a win-win for our community and the environment.”

Shafqat Ali, Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre, stated, “Alto exemplifies our government’s dedication to modernizing infrastructure and reducing commute times. This investment will enhance the quality of life for countless Canadians.”
Ruby Sahota, Minister of Democratic Institutions, noted, “By investing in high-speed rail, we’re not only improving transportation but also making a significant stride toward our climate goals. Alto is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development.”

Maninder Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton East, commented, “The introduction of Alto will transform the way we travel, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly. This is a monumental step forward for our nation’s infrastructure.”

Aman Sodhi, Liberal candidate for Brampton Centre, expressed, “As a proponent of innovative solutions, I am thrilled to see Alto come to fruition. This project will position Canada as a leader in sustainable transportation and create numerous opportunities for our communities.”
Hardam Mangat, Vice President of the Liberal Party, stated, “Alto is a symbol of our forward-thinking approach to infrastructure. It reflects our commitment to a cleaner, more connected, and economically stronger Canada. This project is a game-changer that will shape our country’s future for generations to come.”
While some voices, such as Pierre Poilievre, may express skepticism about Canada’s progress, our government remains steadfast in its commitment to building a brighter future. Alto is a clear demonstration of our dedication to advancing national infrastructure, promoting economic growth, and addressing environmental challenges head-on.
