A 27-year-old Indian woman who had been reported missing since New Year’s Eve was found dead with stab wounds inside her former boyfriend’s apartment in the United States, Maryland police said.
The victim has been identified as Nikitha Godishala, a data and strategy analyst from Ellicott City, according to the Howard County Police Department. Her body was discovered inside an apartment owned by Arjun Sharma, her ex-boyfriend.
Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging Sharma with murder.
Police said Sharma filed a missing person report on January 2, telling officers he had last seen Godishala on December 31 at his apartment. The following day, detectives executed a search warrant at the same location and found Godishala’s body bearing multiple stab wounds.
Authorities said Sharma left the United States on a flight to India on the same day he reported Godishala missing.
Local police are now working with federal law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest him.
The Indian Embassy in the United States said it is in contact with Godishala’s family and is providing all possible consular assistance as the investigation continues.
