Food Haven Rising: Brampton’s Mayfield Plaza Serves Up Global Flavours

A massive new commercial plaza is transforming the food scene in Brampton, with dozens of restaurants already opening their doors and many more on the way. The Mayfield Commercial Centre, located at Mayfield Road and Airport Road near the borders of Caledon and Vaughan, is a 20-acre development offering 150 retail and office units, quickly establishing itself as a hub for dining and community activity.

The plaza is already home to major chains including Wendy’s, Baskin-Robbins, and a soon-to-open KFC, alongside a growing lineup of independent, family-owned spots specializing in international cuisine. Early arrivals such as Burrito Boss, Gondal Shawarma, Cake Mania, Sukhoon Ghar, Nani’s Gelato, and Desi Fried Mania are drawing in food lovers, while several storefronts display “opening soon” signs.

The project mirrors the model of Mississauga’s Ridgeway Plaza, a foodie hotspot that has become both celebrated and controversial for its late-night crowds and noise. Brampton’s version, however, is being embraced by most visitors so far. “I think this is great,” said local resident Gurdeep Gill, after trying a burger at Desi Fried Mania. “Who doesn’t like food options? And this is still kind of an underdeveloped area, so knowing I can come here and have several options is pretty good.”

With unit sizes ranging from 703 to nearly 25,000 square feet, the plaza is designed to accommodate a mix of businesses, from restaurants to medical labs, travel agencies, clothing stores, and professional offices. A separate three-storey section is dedicated to doctors, lawyers, and other professionals.

The project is presented by Gordy Khuman of Re/Max Gold Realty Inc. and developed by Minuk Developments Inc., known for similar large-scale projects, including Ridgeway Plaza. While developers have not commented publicly, interest in the site is already evident.

“I think it’s a good location in an emerging area,” said Manny Fernandez, who visited the centre while scouting potential sites for a fast-food restaurant with friends. “Contrary to what some believe, having so many food places in one spot doesn’t create competition—it attracts crowds. Customers will travel to get here, knowing there will be variety. It may take some time to fill all the units, but this place is big enough to handle it.”

With its growing roster of eateries and expansive space, Mayfield Commercial Centre is poised to become one of Brampton’s top destinations for food lovers, offering everything from global flavours to classic favourites under one roof.
