Canadian travellers hunting for bargain getaways are in luck this fall, with airfares to some top destinations dropping sharply compared to summer. According to a new report from travel search engine Kayak, the shoulder season — the period between the summer rush and winter chill — is offering lower prices, fewer crowds, and pleasant weather for those ready to pack their bags.
International flights are down an average of 11% this fall, translating to savings of around $130 per ticket. Hotel stays abroad have dropped by 10%, saving travellers roughly $30 per night, while car rentals are 16% cheaper, cutting costs by an average of $10 per day. Among the biggest international bargains are Lyon, France, where airfare has plunged by 57%, and Brussels, Belgium, with a 34% price drop.
Domestic travellers can also take advantage of steep discounts. Flights within Canada have fallen by 20% — about $80 cheaper per ticket — while hotel stays are down 7%, saving $20 a night. Domestic car rentals have seen a 29% price dip, with daily savings of around $25. Top domestic deals include flights to Vancouver, Victoria, and Edmonton.
The fall shoulder season often brings some of the best travel perks at off-peak prices, making it a prime time for Canadians to explore both near and far without the summer crowds or costs. For full details and destination-specific deals, travellers can check Kayak’s website.
