Elderly Woman Dies After Scarborough Hit-and-Run, Police Seek Suspect

Toronto police are appealing for public assistance after an 87-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run in Scarborough’s Golden Mile area.

The incident occurred on January 9 in the parking lot of a shopping plaza near Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East. A grey Volkswagen Atlas struck the woman while driving through the lot. The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim critically injured.

The woman was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition and passed away on Thursday, police confirmed.

Investigators have released surveillance images of the suspect and the vehicle involved.

The suspect is described as:

  • Slim build
  • Long dark hair
  • Last seen wearing an orange jacket, blue shirt, dark-coloured pants, and dark-coloured shoes.

Images of the grey Volkswagen Atlas suspected in the collision have also been released.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident, the suspect, or the vehicle to come forward. Tips can be provided directly to investigators at 416-808-1900 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

The tragic hit-and-run has left the community shaken. Police are working diligently to identify the driver and bring closure to the victim’s family.
