DIMENSION X to Transform Shipping Containers into Portals at Oshawa’s Convergence Festival

Oshawa’s upcoming Convergence Music & Art Festival will transport visitors to extraordinary new worlds through an immersive art experience called DIMENSION X, arriving this September.

The innovative exhibit transforms shipping containers into gateways to interactive, multi-sensory art installations created by visionary artists. Festival-goers will step into these containers, embarking on surreal journeys featuring glowing bioluminescent mushrooms, eerie coral reefs, and a bakery where reality bends and twists.

Festival Director Krista Licsi describes DIMENSION X as a groundbreaking addition to Oshawa’s cultural scene, showcasing homegrown creativity and immersive, boundary-pushing artistic experiences.

Featured installations include:

  • Cosmic Mushrooms, by Melissa McKnight & Jason Dasti: Enter an alien landscape brought to life by bioluminescent fungi following a meteorite crash.
  • Izzy’s Sweets Shop, by Chris Trubela: Explore a bakery where quantum science experiments collide with culinary arts, distorting time and dessert in equal measure.
  • Shadows of the Yuletide Beast, by Jordan Anderson: Encounter the chilling legend of Krampus, merging festive charm with folklore’s darker side.
  • Albino Reef, by James Fisher: Visit a ghostly coral reef inspired by graphic novel Squid Lid, exploring themes of loss, history, and haunting beauty.

Alongside DIMENSION X, the festival’s Art Zone will host activities from local cultural institutions, including the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa Art Association, and others, offering hands-on workshops and interactive exhibits.

Toronto-based indie/pop band Valley and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Aysanabee will headline the festival’s music performances, further highlighting Convergence’s commitment to exceptional Canadian talent.

Convergence, presented by the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, enters its third year, having earned recognition as one of Ontario’s top 100 festivals. The festival also features live professional wrestling, a Punk Rock Market, and Nerd Alley—making downtown Oshawa a vibrant hub of creativity and connection.
