Toronto: Indian superstar Diljit Dosanjh completed his North American Dil-Luminati tour with a spectacular performance in front of over 40,000 fans at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Saturday evening. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among those in attendance and even made a brief appearance on stage with Dosanjh.
The Dil-Luminati tour kicked off on April 27 in Vancouver and featured performances in major cities including Winnipeg, Edmonton, Oakland, Dallas, and Newark before culminating in Toronto. Trudeau later shared on X that he stopped by to wish Dosanjh “good luck before his show,” and added, “Canada is a great country — one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a super power.”
Dosanjh responded graciously, saying, “Thank you so much, Sir… it was an honour to have you.” He expressed his excitement about making history with a sold-out show at the Rogers Centre, emphasizing, “Diversity is Canada’s strength,” along with a video featuring Trudeau, himself, and his troupe.
The Vancouver show, held at the BC Place venue, attracted over 50,000 attendees, marking the largest audience for a Punjabi act outside India. Dosanjh also had sold-out performances at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg and Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Before the tour began, Live Nation, the tour promoter, highlighted Dosanjh’s milestone, stating, “Diljit will make history as the first Punjabi artist to headline both Canadian stadiums, BC Place and Rogers Centre.”
Dosanjh’s growing popularity in Canada reflects the mainstream acceptance of Indian entertainment, coinciding with significant immigration from India over the past decade.
