Arooj Henna Cones sold across Canada have been recalled due to a chemical hazard that may cause serious skin damage, including chemical burns. Health Canada issued the recall after confirming the presence of phenol, a prohibited ingredient known to be a skin sensitizer with corrosive properties.
“Phenolic compounds are known to cause chemical burns and should not be present in cosmetic products,” Health Canada stated in its consumer product recall notice, originally published on June 2. The agency urges consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and dispose of them with regular household waste.
As of May 27, one incident involving chemical burns has been reported in Canada in relation to the recalled henna.
The recalled products include the black, red, and brown Arooj Henna Cones, which come in triangular cone-shaped packages. Specific UPC codes for the affected items are:
- Red: 7845129977
- Black: 7845129997
- Brown: 7845129988
The company reported that 5,760 units of the recalled products were sold in Canada between November 2024 and May 2025.
Consumers can report any adverse incidents or concerns regarding this product through Health Canada’s consumer product incident report form. Additional recall notices can be found online through Health Canada or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
