Canada Post and the union representing 55,000 postal workers are returning to the bargaining table today as an overtime ban continues to affect services nationwide. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) confirmed that the Crown corporation has agreed to resume discussions, with Canada Post expected to respond to the union’s latest proposals submitted on Sunday.
Though the union has been in a legal strike position since Friday, it chose to enforce an overtime ban rather than launching a full walkout. The job action has already begun impacting postal operations, with Canada Post reporting a significant 50 per cent drop in parcel volumes compared to the same time last year.
At the heart of the dispute are calls for better wages, improved compensation packages, and concerns over increased part-time staffing and expanded weekend delivery services. As both sides prepare to re-engage, customers across the country remain uncertain about how long service disruptions might continue.
