Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, commented on the initiative: “The Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project provides a controlled environment for learning essential driving skills such as parking and maneuvering. By allowing licensed instructors to use designated areas in our recreation centre parking lots, we are investing in developing skilled and confident drivers, enhancing road safety for the entire community. Together, we are fostering a generation of more responsible drivers.”
Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5; Chair, Legislative Services, added: “Providing safe and accessible spaces for new drivers to practice is essential for building road confidence. The Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project reflects our commitment to road safety and community well-being, ensuring new drivers can develop their skills in a controlled environment. We are excited to see this initiative contribute to safer driving experiences for everyone in Brampton.”
This initiative is designed to offer a controlled and safe environment for new drivers to practice under the guidance of experienced instructors. The designated zones are strategically placed in low-traffic areas of the parking lots, with a maximum of ten instructors and vehicles permitted per lot at any given time.
With 825 licensed driving school plates and instructors, and 76 licensed driving schools operating in the city, Brampton is dedicated to equipping new drivers with the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance road safety. The pilot project will run for one year, after which its effectiveness will be reviewed to determine future steps.
Harkirat Singh, Deputy Mayor; City Councillor, Wards 9 & 10, remarked: “This pilot project is a significant step towards creating safer roads and stronger communities in Brampton. Driving is a critical life skill, and by providing controlled areas for lessons, we support educational opportunities for all residents. I look forward to the positive impact this project will have on new drivers throughout the city.”
