Canada Post Workers Could Strike by Friday as Union Issues 72-Hour Notice

Postal Workers’ Union Warns of Potential Strike Amid Stalled Negotiations

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has issued a 72-hour strike notice, signaling the possibility of a walkout by Canada Post workers starting Friday, Nov. 15, if no agreement is reached.

Announced early Tuesday, the CUPW statement clarified that while notice has been given, the National Executive Board has not yet finalized the decision to initiate job action. The timing, it says, hinges on Canada Post’s responsiveness at the bargaining table in the coming days.

After nearly a year of negotiations, the union highlights ongoing disagreements on key issues, including wage adjustments to match inflation, expanded cost-of-living payments, more paid medical leave, and enhanced group benefits. Currently, Canada Post has yet to respond publicly to the strike notice.
