BRAMPTON — The City of Brampton’s long-term vision for improving transportation has earned provincial recognition, with its Mobility Plan receiving a 2026 PlanON Vision Award of Merit from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
The PlanON Awards recognize achievements in professional planning across Ontario. Brampton’s Mobility Plan was one of six projects selected for a Vision Award of Merit this year.
Endorsed by Brampton City Council in September 2025, the Mobility Plan serves as the city’s long-term Transportation Master Plan, outlining future investments and improvements needed as Brampton’s population continues to grow. The strategy focuses on moving people and goods more safely and efficiently while creating a more sustainable and connected transportation network.
Rather than concentrating solely on vehicles, the plan uses a Complete Streets approach designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, public transit users and drivers. It also connects transportation planning with land-use decisions to increase network capacity and give residents more choices for getting around the city.
The plan emphasizes improved mobility, environmental sustainability, transportation equity, public safety, technology and community engagement. It was developed through technical analysis and extensive public consultation and builds on the broader Brampton Plan and Brampton 2040 Vision.
Mayor Patrick Brown said the provincial recognition reflects Brampton’s efforts to prepare its transportation system for future growth while providing residents with greater choice and connectivity.
The award also recognizes the work of Brampton’s transportation planning staff and project team in developing a long-term strategy intended to keep infrastructure and transportation services aligned with the city’s continued growth.
