The City of Brampton has launched a series of public consultations as Mayor Patrick Brown prepares to present the city’s proposed 2026 municipal budget, scheduled for release on Jan. 9.
Brown said the consultation process is intended to give residents, businesses, and community organizations a direct role in shaping the city’s spending priorities.
“As we continue to invest in community safety, critical infrastructure, city services, economic growth, and building our second hospital, I encourage residents, businesses, and community partners to participate in our budget consultations and help shape a budget that reflects Brampton’s needs today and positions our city for a strong future,” Brown said in a statement to The Brampton Guardian.
At the same time, the mayor emphasized the need for fiscal discipline, noting that residents often call for new programs and services while also expecting affordability.
“When those requests are made, I also ask for ideas on where savings can be found, because every new dollar spent must be paid for,” he said, adding that protecting the city’s triple-A credit rating and keeping property taxes manageable remain top priorities.
Key dates and decision timeline
According to the city, public delegations and council deliberations on the draft budget will take place Jan. 19 to 27, with final approval scheduled for a special council meeting on Jan. 27.
Following adoption, the city plans to roll out a public education campaign featuring videos and digital content from the mayor and council members to explain major investments and budget decisions.
Public engagement opportunities
City staff and council members will host several engagement sessions in January to gather feedback:
