Brampton Names Andy Glynn Interim Fire Chief After Sudden Leadership Change

The City of Brampton has appointed Andy Glynn as its new interim fire chief, stepping in after the sudden departure of former chief Nick Ruller, who held the position for less than a year.

Effective August 25, Glynn takes charge of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) with more than 35 years of experience in municipal and provincial fire services. The city praised his track record, noting his 17 years as deputy fire chief in Oakville, where he oversaw training, prevention, public education, and emergency management. Glynn also played a key role in coordinating emergency response during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading major capital projects, and handling emergency planning for large-scale events. He has also served in senior roles with Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal.

Glynn replaces Ruller, who was appointed in September 2024 after a lengthy search but left in July 2025 to become chief administrative officer in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Ruller had previously served as fire chief in Niagara-on-the-Lake and was elected to its town council in 2022 before resigning to take the Brampton position.

His brief tenure leaves Brampton once again searching for a permanent fire chief, just two years after former chief Bill Boyes resigned in July 2023 to become the city’s commissioner of community services.

For now, officials say Glynn’s leadership will provide “operational stability” while the city works toward finding a long-term replacement.
