Brampton Man Charged Over Fatal Highway Crash Near Kenora

More than a year after a deadly highway collision, a 31-year-old Brampton man has been charged in connection with the death of a commercial truck driver in northwestern Ontario. The tragic crash occurred on Highway 17A near Kenora on February 20, 2024. Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m., where investigators say an SUV collided with a commercial vehicle.

The driver of the transport truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger traveling in the same vehicle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries at the time.

Following a lengthy investigation, police have now charged Singh Varinder of Brampton with dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm. He has been remanded into custody and is expected to appear in court in Kenora on May 12.

The OPP continues to seek any information from the public that could assist the investigation. Witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
