City urges Canadians to show support online and adopt a Made-in-Canada approach
In a bold show of national solidarity, the City of Brampton has launched a new digital campaign called “Stand For Canada,” encouraging Canadians to rally behind local businesses in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Canadian goods.
Supporters can now download social media banners for Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn from www.bramptonforcanada.ca, a site created to mobilize public support for Canadian-made products and protect local jobs.
The campaign urges Canadians coast-to-coast to join “Team Canada” by signing a pledge to support domestic manufacturing and push back against U.S. trade measures, which Brampton officials say could drastically inflate prices and harm Canadian exporters.
“Now that Brampton has taken the made-in-Canada approach, we’re calling on municipalities across the country to do the same,” said Regional Councillor Rowena Santos (Wards 1 & 5). “We procure over $30 billion worth of goods and services in Canada. We will do our part to protect our workers, defend our businesses, and strengthen our economies. We are all on Team Canada.”
The City of Brampton has already committed to a buy-Canadian policy, including:
- Reviewing existing contracts to find legal ways to exit agreements with U.S.-owned companies
- Barring U.S. vendors and subsidiaries from bidding on future municipal procurements while tariffs remain in effect
The city is also asking other municipalities to adopt similar procurement measures to prioritize Canadian companies.
Jaipaul Massey-Singh, CEO of the Brampton Board of Trade, praised the campaign, saying it will help strengthen local industries and build new, resilient business relationships.
The “Stand For Canada” banners and petition are part of a larger effort to unite communities in economic resistance and promote national pride in Canadian goods and services.
