Brampton Issues Snow Removal Guidelines: Parking Bans, Sidewalk Clearing, and Financial Aid

Following a major winter storm, the City of Brampton has deployed crews to clear snow from roadways, prioritizing major streets with heavy traffic. Residents should be aware of city bylaws, parking restrictions, and snow removal responsibilities as the cleanup continues.

To ensure plows, salt trucks, and emergency vehicles can navigate safely, street parking is prohibited during winter storms until snow removal is complete. Violating this bylaw could result in fines:

  • $125 for a first offence
  • $250 for a second offence
  • $500 for subsequent offences

Bylaw officers actively inspect streets before plowing and may tow vehicles that are obstructing snow removal efforts.

Brampton’s snow and ice removal bylaw requires homeowners and tenants to:

  • Clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property by 11 a.m. the day after snowfall.
  • Keep fire hydrants clear to ensure emergency access.
  • Avoid shoveling snow onto roadways, as this creates hazards for drivers, blocks storm drains, and violates the Highway Traffic Act.

Seniors (65+ years old) and people with disabilities may qualify for financial aid to hire snow removal assistance:

  • $300 for non-corner lot properties
  • $400 for corner lots

The program is available to both homeowners and renters. Visit the city’s snow removal financial assistance webpage for details.
