Brampton Calls on Residents to Join Citywide Clean-Up for Pollution Prevention Week

Brampton is rallying its residents to roll up their sleeves and help keep the city beautiful as part of Pollution Prevention Week, which runs until Sunday. The initiative is designed to raise awareness and inspire action on environmental issues, with daily themes encouraging everything from park clean-ups to responsible car washing and pet waste disposal.

Tuesday’s theme puts parks front and centre, inviting residents to organize their own litter pick-ups in local green spaces. Participants can leave collected bags near park signs or garbage bins and even register with the city to receive clean-up supplies. Brampton’s new “Ready, Set, Collect” Litter Reduction Competition allows individuals and teams to log their clean-up efforts and track the impact they are making across the city.

The week continues with a focus on water protection Wednesday, reminding residents to avoid washing cars in driveways where runoff flows untreated into storm drains and eventually into Lake Ontario, a source of drinking water for millions. Using biodegradable soap or taking vehicles to commercial car washes helps keep harmful chemicals out of waterways.

Thursday shifts attention to air quality, encouraging Brampton residents to consider walking, cycling, taking transit, or even trying an e-scooter instead of driving. Friday will highlight pet waste, urging owners to follow city by-laws and properly dispose of waste to keep public spaces clean and safe.

City officials say this collective effort promotes “community-wide environmental stewardship” and gives everyone a chance to make a tangible difference in their neighbourhoods.
