Brampton Breaks Ground on First All-Electric Fire Station

Brampton has begun construction on its first all-electric fire station, a project city officials say will both improve emergency response times and advance local climate goals.

Station 215, located at 10539 Goreway Drive in the city’s northeast, will feature fully electric infrastructure, including EV fire trucks, rooftop solar panels, a green roof, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. The 11,377-square-foot two-bay facility is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 15 tonnes a year—equivalent to taking four gas-powered vehicles off the road or planting 666 trees annually.

“This isn’t just about life-saving services. It’s also about furthering our climate goals and tackling climate change,” said Regional Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, noting that the project ranks highly on sustainability metrics. He added that the station will be a vital addition as the area’s population continues to grow, helping reduce emergency response times by an estimated 33 per cent once operational.

The city officially broke ground on the $11 million project on August 15, and construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026. When finished, the station will serve approximately 26,450 residents and initially house a pumper truck, with room to accommodate more vehicles in the future. A hose tower for drying fire hoses will also be part of the design.

Mayor Patrick Brown hailed the project as a “critical addition” to Brampton’s emergency services. “By building a fully electric fire station equipped with solar panels, green infrastructure and electric fire trucks, we will be able to respond faster to emergencies and reduce emissions to build a more sustainable city for future generations,” he said.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Acting Chief Richard Murdoch said the new facility will help crews respond “more quickly and effectively” in the northeast, where call volumes are increasing, while also providing modern features to support firefighter health, safety, training, and readiness.
