After more than a quarter-century serving the community, Piri Piri Grill, a well-known Portuguese restaurant in Toronto’s Junction area, has officially closed its doors.
Located at 1444 Dupont St., the long-running eatery announced its closure on Nov. 11, 2025, marking the end of a 25-year chapter for the neighbourhood favourite.
Owner Thanks Community for Decades of Support
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, owner Agnelo Da Costa expressed deep gratitude to loyal customers, staff, family, and friends.
“Since opening in 1998, it has been an honour to serve this community, to welcome generations of guests, and to share countless memories and celebrations around the table,”

Da Costa noted that Piri Piri Grill became a place “where food and community came together” over the years, known especially for its signature Portuguese chicken, seafood, and homestyle dishes—offering a Little Portugal experience beyond the neighbourhood itself.
A New Concept Coming in January
While the closure marks the end of an era, Da Costa confirmed that a new restaurant concept will take its place in January 2026.
“This is not goodbye but a new beginning,” he wrote, hinting at an upcoming brand that will transform the space in the new year.
The announcement has sparked nostalgia among longtime patrons who frequented the restaurant for its warm atmosphere and traditional Portuguese flavours.
