Ontario’s Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform, Graham McGregor, took a significant step in combating rising auto theft and addressing bail reform issues with a high-profile meeting held at Queen’s Park on October 7, 2024. The meeting gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from the Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario (MVRO), the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, auto manufacturers, insurance companies, and other industry players. The primary focus was to coordinate efforts to tackle auto theft while advocating for changes to bail regulations.
McGregor, who was appointed to this newly created Cabinet portfolio on August 8, 2024, by Premier Doug Ford, emphasized a “whole of government approach.” The meeting included collaboration with various ministries, such as the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, to ensure a unified strategy in fighting auto theft.
Frank Notte, Director of Government Relations for the MVRO, expressed strong support for McGregor’s initiatives. “I’ve seen firsthand the Minister’s passion for safer communities and getting tough on crime. I’m confident his tenacity to get things done will help put criminals out of business,” said Notte.
During the meeting, McGregor also acknowledged Ontario’s investment in the Preventing Auto Thefts (PAT) program, which provides $18 million in funding over three years. This investment supports 21 projects that feature new approaches in preventing auto theft and enforcing stricter measures against criminals involved in vehicle-related crimes.

McGregor’s efforts have garnered widespread attention, and the MVRO has committed to continued collaboration with the Minister to advance innovative strategies that tackle auto theft and strengthen bail reform policies.
