Residents across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) are waking up to challenging weather conditions as snow and freezing rain sweep through the region, prompting school closures and widespread bus cancellations. Environment Canada warns of slick roadways and reduced visibility, urging drivers to exercise caution.

The inclement weather has forced several school boards in the GTHA to cancel bus services, while schools in Hamilton have been closed entirely. Coulter noted that conditions should improve by midday, with most areas experiencing calmer weather by the afternoon.

However, the reprieve may be short-lived. Another significant weather system is forecast to arrive late Saturday afternoon, bringing an additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snow, with localized areas potentially seeing heavier accumulations. This system is expected to persist into early Sunday.

The combination of snow and freezing rain has created hazardous travel conditions, with authorities advising residents to stay updated on weather alerts and plan accordingly.
