A Canada-wide manhunt continues for Dharam Singh Dhaliwal, 31, who is wanted on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the 2022 killing of Pawanpreet Kaur, 21, in Mississauga.
Kaur, a Brampton resident, was fatally shot while working the night shift at a Petro-Canada gas station at Britannia and Creditview roads on December 3, 2022.
The fugitive remains on Canada’s Top 25 Most Wanted list, and a $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. The reward is valid until June 2025, according to the Canada-wide BOLO Program, which highlighted Dhaliwal’s case as part of its effort to encourage public assistance in apprehending wanted fugitives.
The Crime
Kaur was shot multiple times at close range just after 10:30 p.m. while inside the gas station kiosk. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene despite emergency responders’ life-saving efforts.
The tragic incident was Peel Region’s 13th homicide in 2022, leaving the community reeling from its impact. Police allege that Dhaliwal had been missing since September 2022, months before the murder, and that his disappearance was part of a calculated plan to kill Kaur.
The Investigation
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah previously stated that Kaur’s murder has had a devastating impact on her family and the community, stressing the importance of bringing Dhaliwal to justice.
Police describe the suspect as wearing a three-quarter-length dark winter jacket, dark pants, winter boots, a dark toque, and white gloves during the attack. Notably, investigators believe he was smoking a cigarette before pulling up his hood and committing the crime.
In early 2023, two of Dhaliwal’s family members were arrested in Moncton and charged with being accessories to murder after the fact, further intensifying the investigation.
Reward and Public Appeal
Dhaliwal, who is considered armed and dangerous, was first listed as No. 9 on the Canada’s Most Wanted list in April and is currently No. 15. The BOLO Program urges anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that the reward is for information leading to an arrest and not contingent upon conviction.
“If you see this individual, do not approach him,” police advise. Instead, contact 911 immediately.
Those with relevant information can also contact Peel Regional Police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or provide anonymous tips through Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to address violent crime and bring justice to victims like Kaur and their families.
