Two Brampton men are facing multiple charges after a kidnapping that allegedly involved a $200,000 ransom demand, while a third suspect remains at large, Peel Regional Police say.
The incident was first reported on Nov. 6, when a man contacted police claiming that a close friend had been abducted. According to investigators, the kidnappers demanded $200,000 and threatened to harm the victim if payment was not made.
Police say the victim was later located safely and unharmed, though authorities have not disclosed where the individual was found. One suspect was arrested at the scene, where officers also recovered a .45-calibre firearm.
No information about the victim has been released.
On Feb. 13, investigators executed search warrants at two locations in Brampton, where they say they uncovered additional evidence connected to the kidnapping, including a loaded firearm magazine and an unloaded rifle magazine.
Peel Regional Police have charged Harkirat Singh and Amritpal Singh, both 27 and from Brampton, with multiple offences, including kidnapping while using a firearm and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for Hasanpreet Singh, 28, who police say has no fixed address and remains outstanding.
Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said the investigation demonstrates the coordinated efforts of officers and investigators.
“Through their coordinated and persistent efforts, they removed an illegal firearm from our streets and intervened in time to protect a victim from harm,” Andrews said in a statement.
