A Delhi court on Friday reserved its order on the quantum of sentence for former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The verdict is scheduled to be pronounced on February 25.
During the hearing, the complainant, whose husband and son were killed in the riots, urged the court to award Kumar the death penalty, arguing that he had played a key role in instigating the mob.
“The accused, being a leader, incited mobs to commit genocide, crimes against humanity, and cold-blooded murders. He deserves nothing less than capital punishment,” said senior advocate HS Phoolka, representing the complainant.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja has directed Kumar’s counsel to submit written arguments within two days before delivering the sentencing order.
