In a significant boost to youth employment in Brampton, over $1 million in federal funding has been allocated to support the creation of more than 250 new jobs for young Canadians. The funding, part of the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, was announced at an event held at Claireville Conservation in Brampton East, where local MP Maninder Sidhu emphasized the program’s positive impact on the community and the importance of providing opportunities for young people to gain valuable work experience.
The Canada Summer Jobs program is a key initiative under the federal government’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. It aims to create employment opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30, helping them gain the skills and experience needed to succeed in the workforce. Since its inception, the CSJ program has been instrumental in providing young Canadians with summer job opportunities that not only help them earn money but also equip them with essential skills for their future careers.
Each year, CSJ funds thousands of jobs across various sectors, including environmental conservation, healthcare, tourism, and the skilled trades. These jobs are typically full-time, lasting between six to sixteen weeks, providing young workers with a meaningful work experience that can significantly enhance their resumes and future employment prospects.
The program also prioritizes projects that support youth facing barriers to employment, such as Indigenous youth, youth with disabilities, and racialized youth. By ensuring equitable access to job opportunities, the CSJ program plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce in Canada.
During his visit to Claireville Conservation, MP Maninder Sidhu highlighted the transformative role that the Canada Summer Jobs program plays in the lives of young Canadians. “The Canada Summer Jobs program is more than just employment; it’s an investment in the future of our youth and our community,” Sidhu remarked. “By supporting these jobs, we’re not only helping young people earn a living, but we’re also equipping them with the skills and experiences that will pave the way for their future success.”

MP Shafqat Ali, who also attended the event, praised the program for its role in fostering economic growth in the region. “Investing in our youth is investing in our future. The Canada Summer Jobs program provides our young people with the tools they need to succeed, while also supporting local businesses and organizations. This is how we build a stronger, more resilient community,” Ali stated.
Minister Kamal Khera added her voice to the chorus of support for the program, emphasizing its importance in creating equitable opportunities for all Canadians. “The Canada Summer Jobs program is crucial in ensuring that every young Canadian, regardless of their background, has access to meaningful employment opportunities. This program not only addresses immediate economic needs but also lays the foundation for long-term success and prosperity for our youth,” Khera said.

The event at Claireville Conservation underscored the federal government’s commitment to supporting young Canadians, particularly in areas facing economic challenges. The jobs funded through this initiative span various sectors, providing diverse opportunities for young workers to explore career paths that align with their interests and aspirations.
As the program continues to roll out, young Canadians in Brampton and across the country are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available through Canada Summer Jobs. The federal government’s ongoing investment in youth employment reflects a broader strategy to foster economic growth, reduce youth unemployment, and build a more resilient workforce for the future.
