Chipotle to Replace Former Swiss Chalet in Mississauga

A Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open at the former Swiss Chalet location at 2975 Eglinton Ave. W., nearly a year after the beloved restaurant closed its doors.

The Swiss Chalet at Winston Churchill Boulevard shut down in March 2024, relocating to a new spot at 6975 Meadowvale Town Centre Circle, where it now occupies part of a former CIBC Bank space. The closure marked the end of an era for many long-time residents, with some sharing nostalgic memories of dining at the location.

After remaining vacant for nearly a year, Chipotle has now installed signage, confirming its plans to open in the space. The U.S.-based restaurant chain, known for its burritos and bowls inspired by the San Francisco Mission District, applied for a building permit in September 2024.

A Chipotle spokesperson confirmed that the new location is scheduled to open this spring, though an exact launch date has not been announced. It remains unclear if additional restaurants will occupy the large space.

With more than 3,600 locations worldwide, Chipotle continues to expand its footprint in Canada. This will be Mississauga’s fifth Chipotle restaurant, joining locations at Square One Shopping Centre, Erin Mills Parkway, Dixie Road, and Hurontario Street.
