Mississauga Introduces Financial Aid for Flood Protection—Claim Up to $10,500

Homeowners in Mississauga can now apply for up to $10,500 in rebates to help offset the costs of flood prevention measures, following last summer’s devastating storms that caused widespread damage across the city.

Two rebate programs have been launched in response to the July and August 2024 flooding, providing financial assistance for homeowners who take proactive steps to protect their properties from future water damage.

Available Rebates for Mississauga Residents

  1. Flood Resilience Rebate – Covers up to 50% of the cost of eligible flood-resistant materials and installations, including labour and taxes, up to a maximum of $3,000.
  2. Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate – Offers up to $7,500 for homeowners to install flood prevention measures such as sump pumps, backwater valves, and downspout disconnections.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for either rebate, you must:
Be a registered homeowner of a detached home, semi-detached home, duplex, or townhouse in Mississauga.
Provide proof of ownership (copy of your City of Mississauga tax bill).
For the Flood Resilience Rebate, you must have experienced flood damage on or after July 8, 2024 and provide supporting documents such as:

  • Proof of flooding (insurance claim, photos, or reports).
  • Proof of completed work (receipts for materials and paid invoices).

For the Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate, all installations must be performed by a professional contractor with a valid City of Mississauga business license.

How to Apply?

Deadline to apply: December 31, 2025
Retroactive applications (for work completed after July 16, 2024, before the program launch) will be accepted until August 1, 2025.
New applications for work completed after February 12, 2025, require pre-approval and final approval before funding is granted.

Applications can be submitted online or by mail, along with the necessary supporting documentation. For full details on eligibility criteria and submission guidelines, visit the official Mississauga rebate program webpage.

With climate change increasing the frequency of extreme weather events, these rebates provide homeowners with an important opportunity to invest in flood protection and reduce the risk of costly damage in the future.
