Saudi Arabia’s ‘City of Earth’ Attracts Major Indian Investors, Including Tata and Oberoi Group

Saudi Arabia is making a bold move in real estate and tourism development with its $63.2 billion giga-project, Diriyah, also known as the City of Earth. This ambitious initiative is set to become a global landmark, integrating historical heritage with luxury urban development on the outskirts of Riyadh.

Several leading Indian companies, including Tata Group and Oberoi Group, have expressed keen interest in investing in this grand project. According to Diriyah CEO Jerry Inzerillo, these industry giants have already signed agreements to contribute to the city’s development. The Taj Hotel Group is also expanding its presence, opening its 250th property with 202 rooms in Diriyah.

The City of Earth will accommodate 100,000 residents and provide workspace for another 100,000 professionals. Beyond real estate, Diriyah will boast:

  • 40+ luxury hotels
  • 1,000+ retail shops
  • 150+ restaurants and cafes
  • A world-class university
  • Multiple art and cultural institutions
  • A state-of-the-art opera house
  • A 20,000-seat multipurpose arena
  • A championship golf course
  • An international equestrian and polo center

The project’s primary aim is to restore the historical birthplace of the modern Saudi empire, incorporating the UNESCO-listed At-Turaif district, while transforming the area into a thriving commercial and tourism hub.

India-Saudi Arabia trade relations have grown substantially, with over 3,000 Indian companies already operating in the Kingdom across manufacturing, IT, energy, and telecommunications. The City of Earth is expected to further deepen this partnership, contributing $18.6 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP and creating 178,000 new jobs.

With significant investments from Indian businesses and global corporations, Diriyah is set to become a premier international destination, redefining luxury, culture, and commerce in Saudi Arabia.
