Russia-Ukraine War: Trump Promises Quick Resolution Amid Intensified Ukrainian Strikes
The Russia-Ukraine war has entered a critical phase as Donald Trump, newly sworn in as the President of the United States, has adopted a firm stance against Vladimir Putin. Trump pledged to end the conflict within 100 days of his presidency, describing Ukraine as a “crematorium” to highlight the devastating toll of the war.
The U.S. President warned Moscow that failure to cease hostilities would result in intensified sanctions against Russia. This warning appears to have triggered a shift in dynamics, with Russia reportedly reducing the intensity of its attacks on Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces have aggressively escalated their operations.
On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Moscow reported that Ukraine had launched drone attacks on three Russian territories, including Ryazan, home to one of the country’s largest oil refineries. This marked the third significant attack in recent days. Social media platforms have been flooded with videos showing massive fires engulfing parts of the refinery, though the footage remains unverified.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that Ukrainian forces deployed 15 drones targeting the Ryazan, Kursk, and Belgorod regions overnight. Most of the drones were reportedly intercepted and destroyed. The governor of the Ryazan region, Pavel Malkov, stated that assessments of property damage are ongoing, with no casualties reported as of now.
This latest strike comes just days after a similar attack on the Ryazan refinery on January 24, which caused significant damage. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, drone strikes sparked a fire at the refinery, owned by Rosneft PJSC, damaging hydrotreaters critical for producing diesel and jet fuel.
Ukraine’s increased aggression on Russian soil marks a notable escalation in the conflict. Meanwhile, Trump’s assertive approach signals a potential turning point, as global attention remains fixed on the unfolding events in Eastern Europe.
