Davis Love III Recovering After Successful Open-Heart Surgery

Golf legend Davis Love III, 60, has been released from the hospital following successful open-heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. The procedure, which was scheduled in advance, replaced a leaky valve that was first detected a decade ago.

The news was shared during Saturday’s final-round broadcast of the Farmers Insurance Open by CBS announcer Jim Nantz, who spoke with Love over the phone earlier that day. Love expressed optimism about his recovery, saying, “I went in healthy, and I came out healthier.”

Love has already started his rehabilitation, working with Randy Myers, director of golf fitness at Sea Island Resort. Myers, who is also the father-in-law of PGA Tour player Andrew Novak, is guiding Love through his therapy sessions.

Looking ahead, Love plans to resume driving by March and putting by April.

Though Love’s competitive appearances have been limited recently, he remains a respected figure in the golf community. Last year, he played in just one PGA Tour event, the RSM Classic in November, where he withdrew after an opening round of 82. He also made three starts on the PGA Tour Champions.

Love’s positive outlook and proactive approach to recovery signal his determination to return to his passion for golf. The golfing world will undoubtedly be rooting for his full recovery and return to the sport.
