Nearly 6,000 Chevrolet Equinox EVs Recalled in Canada Due to Braking Defect

General Motors Issues Recall for 2025 Models Over Software Calibration Issue

Nearly 6,000 electric vehicles in Canada are being recalled due to a braking defect in certain 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EVs, General Motors has announced.

“General Motors is recalling a certain population of 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EVs for an incorrect software calibration in the brake control module,” a GM spokesperson told INsauga.com in an email.

The issue involves the adaptive cruise control, which may fail to engage the brakes as expected. According to a report from Reuters, this defect could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects a total of 2,890 vehicles in the United States and 5,599 in Canada. Of these, nearly 35 per cent of the vehicles in Canada are either in transit or still in dealer possession.

The defect specifically impacts all-wheel drive models not equipped with Super Cruise, a hands-free driver assistance technology available on certain Chevrolet models. According to Chevrolet, Super Cruise allows for hands-free driving on compatible roads.

General Motors has assured customers that a fix is now available for affected vehicles. “We’re working to resolve this matter as quickly as possible through software calibration updates,” the spokesperson said.

Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to contact their local Chevrolet dealership to schedule an appointment for the repair. The software calibration updates will be provided free of charge.

This recall underscores the importance of ensuring software reliability in EVs as automakers continue to integrate advanced technologies into their vehicles.
