Brampton’s 2025 Budget: Investing in Infrastructure, Healthcare, and Community Growth

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown and City Council officially adopted the 2025 Budget today, unveiling a comprehensive plan to enhance infrastructure, healthcare, transit, and community spaces while maintaining affordability for residents.

Investing in Brampton’s Future
The $1 billion budget includes a 2.9% tax levy increase, translating to an additional $194 annually for the average homeowner. The budget aims to align with the City’s 2022-2026 Corporate Strategic Plan, emphasizing progress and resilience.

Budget Highlights

  • Infrastructure:
    • $23.8 million for downtown revitalization.
    • $15 million for the Riverwalk project, aimed at flood mitigation and urban renewal.
  • Community Spaces and Recreation:
    • $148 million allocated for the new Embleton Community Centre.
    • $23 million for winter-optimized facilities, including the Earnscliffe Cricket Dome.
    • $14 million for Cassie Campbell Field Hockey construction.
    • $5 million for park enhancements and playground upgrades.
    • New outdoor ice rinks and a 5% expansion in recreation programs to serve 8,000 more participants.
  • Transit:
    • $300 million committed to Brampton Transit’s third facility to support service growth.
    • 52,000 additional service hours to reduce wait times and improve commute experiences.
  • Healthcare:
    • $10 million for the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) School of Medicine, opening in 2025.
    • $81.1 million in reserves and $4.9 million in levies for Brampton’s second hospital.

The budget development process prioritized public input through:

  • A telephone town hall with nearly 5,700 residents.
  • A roundtable discussion with over 200 businesses.
  • Five coffee chats hosted by ward councillors.

Mayor Patrick Brown highlighted the collaborative approach:
“Brampton’s 2025 Budget is a testament to our vision for progress. We are investing in critical areas to ensure a brighter future for all while keeping affordability at the forefront.”

Paul Vicente, Regional Councillor and Vice Chair of the 2025 Budget, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of public engagement in shaping the budget:
“The 2025 Budget reflects the wishes of Brampton residents and businesses. We consulted extensively and listened to community priorities. This budget invests in key areas like infrastructure, transit, healthcare, and community spaces, while always respecting the taxpayer.”

Mohamed Lachemi, President of Toronto Metropolitan University, praised the city’s $10 million contribution to the TMU School of Medicine, emphasizing its importance for training culturally respectful doctors.

Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO of William Osler Health System, noted the historic significance of Brampton’s investment in Peel Memorial redevelopment, calling it vital for the community’s healthcare needs.
