Pakistan’s security forces have killed six suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in the Panjgur district of Balochistan, according to a statement released by the country’s military.
The operation was launched following intelligence reports regarding the presence of armed militants in the area. Security forces reportedly targeted multiple suspected hideouts during the raid, leading to an exchange of gunfire between troops and the militants.
According to military officials, six militants were killed during the operation. Security personnel also recovered weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices, and vehicles allegedly used by the suspects.
Military authorities stated that the operation formed part of Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign aimed at combating militant violence and improving security in regions affected by insurgent activity. Follow-up search and clearance operations are continuing in the area to ensure that no additional threats remain.
The latest operation comes amid heightened security concerns in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces have conducted a series of operations against militant groups in recent months. Pakistani authorities say these efforts are intended to disrupt militant networks, prevent attacks on civilians and security personnel, and restore stability in affected regions.
The operation also follows a deadly explosion in Quetta last month that resulted in multiple casualties, including security personnel and civilians. The attack prompted renewed security measures and intensified counter-terrorism operations across the province.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in militant violence in recent years, particularly in its western provinces bordering Afghanistan. Security officials have repeatedly expressed concerns about cross-border militancy and the presence of armed groups operating in the region.
The Pakistani military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing counter-terrorism operations under its national security strategy, emphasizing that efforts to combat militancy and maintain internal security will remain a priority.
As with many security operations, some claims regarding the identities, affiliations, and foreign backing of those killed originate from official military statements and may not be independently verified. The broader regional security situation remains complex, involving multiple militant organizations and ongoing tensions along Pakistan’s western border.
Investigations and sanitization operations in the Panjgur area remain ongoing.
