Family Claims Killer Fled To Canada
The Punjabi music industry and local community in Punjab are in shock after emerging singer Inder Kaur was found dead in a canal near Ludhiana days after she was allegedly abducted, with her family accusing the main suspect of fleeing to Canada following the crime.
According to police and family members, the singer — also known as Yashinder Kaur — had been missing since the evening of May 13 after leaving her home in Ludhiana to buy groceries. When she failed to return, her family launched a frantic search before filing a police complaint.
Her body was later recovered from the Neelon Canal near Ludhiana and taken to the mortuary at Samrala Civil Hospital, where family members identified her before post-mortem proceedings began.
In a complaint submitted to police, her brother Jotinder Singh alleged that suspicion quickly fell on Sukhwinder Singh, a man from Bhaloor village who the family claims had been pressuring the singer for marriage.
The family alleged that Inder Kaur had rejected his proposal, leading to ongoing resentment. They further claimed that Sukhwinder Singh had recently travelled from Canada to Punjab and, along with associates, allegedly intercepted the singer at gunpoint, kidnapped her, murdered her, and disposed of her body in the canal before escaping back to Canada.
The allegations have intensified public outrage, particularly after the family accused police of failing to act swiftly despite an FIR reportedly being registered on May 15 against Sukhwinder Singh and another accused identified as Karamjit Singh.
Balbir Singh confirmed that a criminal case has been registered and police are actively searching for the accused individuals. Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed whether the suspect has indeed left India or travelled to Canada.
The tragic case has sparked emotional reactions across Punjabi social media circles, with many artists and fans expressing grief over the death of the young singer whose career was still emerging in the Punjabi entertainment industry.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue efforts to locate and arrest the accused while awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination.
