Drake Freezes the CN Tower as Toronto Celebrates Surprise Triple Album Drop

Toronto turned into a giant stage Thursday night as hometown superstar Drake launched not one, but three surprise album releases with dramatic visuals across the city.

Fans had been expecting the release of Iceman on May 14 after weeks of teasing online, but the rapper stunned audiences by also announcing two additional albums:

  • Habibti
  • Maid of Honour

Frozen CN Tower Lights Up Toronto Skyline

As the visual album for Iceman premiered online Thursday night, the CN Tower appeared frozen with massive ice-themed projections covering the landmark.

The stunt quickly drew crowds downtown as fans gathered around the tower to watch the visuals and celebrate the release.

Toronto Featured Throughout the Visual Album

The cinematic project showcased several iconic Toronto locations, including:

  • The CN Tower
  • Toronto City Hall council chamber
  • The area near Downsview Park
  • Downtown Toronto streets and skyline scenes

The visual album included dramatic scenes, performances and large-scale pyrotechnics.

Harbourfront Fireworks Surprise Fans

At approximately 10:45 p.m., fireworks lit up the waterfront near Harbourfront Centre, adding another surprise spectacle to the citywide rollout.

Crowds packed the downtown core throughout the evening as social media exploded with reactions to the unexpected triple release.

Months of Viral Promotion

The rollout for Iceman had already generated buzz in Toronto for weeks.

In April, a giant ice installation appeared near Bond Street downtown with Drake hinting the release date was hidden inside the sculpture. The stunt drew massive crowds, with some fans attempting to chip away at the ice before Toronto Fire Services eventually dismantled it over safety concerns.

Earlier this month, Drake was also spotted filming on a moving tractor-trailer carrying giant ice blocks through downtown Toronto — another clue connected to the Iceman theme.

The surprise launch further reinforced Drake’s long-running connection to Toronto and his reputation for turning album releases into major cultural events across the city.
