Generations Unite for a Cleaner Brampton: Wards 1 & 5 Park Cleanup a Grand Success

Youth, Adults, Seniors and Kids Come Together for Environment and Community Spirit

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO — Community pride, environmental awareness, and neighbourhood unity were on full display yesterday as more than 200 residents came together for the annual Wards 1 & 5 Park Cleanup & Community BBQ, led by Rowena Santos and Paul Vicente.

The successful event, held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., brought together youth, adults, senior citizens, and even young children, all working side by side to keep Brampton clean, green, and beautiful ahead of Earth Day celebrations. Their enthusiastic participation made the event a grand success and showcased the true spirit of togetherness.

The cleanup initiative was supported by the Santos Youth Council, People Against Littering, and Brampton Parks and Recreation. The event was expertly managed and coordinated by Bill Godfrey of People Against Littering, whose leadership and dedication helped make the day highly successful.

Community Leadership Inspires Participation

Welcoming participants, Rowena Santos praised the outstanding turnout and the involvement of all age groups.

“Today is about more than picking up litter — it is about building pride in our community, protecting our environment, and showing what we can achieve when neighbours work together. Seeing youth, families, seniors, and children all participating together is truly inspiring.”

Paul Vicente also thanked participants and emphasized the value of collective action.

“Events like this remind us that a cleaner city starts with each of us. Every bag of litter collected today represents care, responsibility, and love for Brampton. Thank you to every volunteer, young and old, who gave their time for this meaningful cause.”

Fun, Music and Volunteer Spirit

The event featured a lively and festive atmosphere with music by DJ Goodvibes DH, who kept the positive vibe going while volunteers cleaned local park areas and surrounding neighbourhood spaces.

Students who pre-registered were able to earn volunteer hours, while younger children proudly joined their parents and families in helping the environment.

Community groups and associations participating included:

  • Flower City Friends Club
  • Mukti Foundation
  • Association of Seniors
  • North America Seniors Association
  • Rise and Shine Group

Their presence reflected the strength of Brampton’s diverse and caring community.

Bill Godfrey Highlights the Importance of Action

Speaking during the event, Bill Godfrey of People Against Littering said the success of the cleanup sends a powerful message.

“Cleanups like this are about much more than garbage collection. They create awareness, encourage respect for public spaces, and inspire future generations to take ownership of their city. When youth, adults, seniors, and children all show up together, it proves Brampton truly cares.”

A special note of appreciation was also shared for Bill Godfrey, whose years of dedication and tireless volunteer service have made a meaningful impact across the city. Through regular cleanups, awareness campaigns, and hands-on leadership, he has inspired countless residents to take pride in their neighbourhoods and work together for a cleaner environment. His continued efforts have helped keep many parks, streets, and public spaces in Brampton cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.

Bill Godfrey’s passion for community service and environmental responsibility has become a shining example of how one committed individual can motivate an entire city to take action.

Mayor Patrick Brown Applauds Volunteers

Keynote speaker Patrick Brown commended the volunteers for their dedication and community spirit.

“This is the Brampton spirit we are proud of — residents of every generation coming together, helping one another, and taking action to improve our city. Thank you to everyone who participated today. Your efforts make a real difference.”

Food, Friendship and Celebration

After the cleanup, participants enjoyed a free community BBQ organized by the City of Brampton, while delicious pizza was served courtesy of Singh Pizza. Families, friends, and neighbours gathered to celebrate the success of the event in a joyful atmosphere filled with food, friendship, and entertainment.

Community Voice

Gian Paul of Flower City Friends Club praised the organizers and volunteers for creating a memorable event.

“This event brought everyone together in the best possible way. Youth, adults, seniors, and children all participated with great energy. It was a wonderful example of community service combined with joy and unity.”

Closing Thanks

In their closing remarks, Rowena Santos, Paul Vicente, and Patrick Brown thanked all volunteers, sponsors, city staff, and participating organizations for making the event a tremendous success.

Bill Godfrey concluded with an inspiring keynote message:

“A clean city does not happen by accident — it happens when people care enough to act. Every wrapper picked up, every park cleaned, and every child taught to respect nature helps build a better Brampton for the future. Together, we can keep our city clean, green, and litter-free.”

The Wards 1 & 5 Park Cleanup once again proved that when all generations come together with purpose, small actions can create a big impact.
