Brampton Opens First Community Commercial Kitchen to Help Food Entrepreneurs Grow

The City of Brampton has officially opened its first community commercial kitchen, creating a new pathway for aspiring chefs, bakers, caterers and food entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into thriving businesses.

Located at 41 George St. S. beside the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre, the new 1,200-square-foot facility is designed to fill a long-standing gap in local business infrastructure by offering affordable access to a professional, public health-certified kitchen.

While connected to the Entrepreneur Centre, the kitchen operates independently and is available for rentals to residents and entrepreneurs looking to develop products, test recipes, improve production and scale their operations.

City officials say the facility is one of the few municipally supported shared kitchens of its kind in Ontario, making it a significant step forward for Brampton’s growing food and beverage sector.

The space includes two rentable kitchen areas starting at $35 per hour and features commercial-grade equipment such as a six-burner range, convection oven, combi-oven, fryer, stand mixer, kettle, tilt skillet, freezer, cooler and food processor.

The launch also highlighted the success story of local entrepreneur Denise Edwards, founder of Tropix Coconut Drops. Edwards shared how access to a certified kitchen in her early days helped transform a small idea selling Jamaican coconut drops at the Brampton Farmers’ Market into a business serving customers worldwide.

Her journey reflects the broader purpose of the new facility: helping local talent move from kitchen-table concepts to commercial success.

Patrick Brown called the opening a major milestone, noting that Brampton’s food and beverage industry continues to be an important driver of jobs, innovation and economic growth.

To rent the facility, users must first obtain a city catering licence and complete an approved Ontario food handler certification course.

Beyond business creation, the new commercial kitchen represents something larger for the community — more opportunities for newcomers, diverse food creators, family-run ventures and small businesses to build wealth locally while showcasing Brampton’s multicultural culinary identity.
