Brampton Man Charged After $1M Theft of Hurricane Relief Supplies Bound for Jamaica

A 40-year-old man from Brampton has been charged after police say more than $1 million in stolen property was recovered, including hurricane relief supplies that were meant for Jamaica.

What Happened

According to Peel Regional Police, the theft happened on Dec. 3, 2025 at a storage facility in Mississauga near Derry Road East and Goreway Drive.

Police allege a suspect used a transport truck to attach a trailer carrying a shipping container, then drove away.

What Was Inside

The container reportedly held relief supplies for communities recovering from Hurricane Melissa, including:

  • Clothing
  • Non-perishable food
  • Other donated goods

Police said additional stolen property recovered during the investigation included trucks and heavy equipment.

Recovery and Return

Authorities say all recovered relief goods were returned and later shipped to Kingston for distribution to affected communities.

Arrest and Charges

After what police described as an extensive investigation, officers searched a residence in Brampton on March 11 and arrested the suspect.

Charges include:

  • Break and enter
  • Two counts of theft over $5,000
  • Two counts of operating while prohibited
  • Three counts of breaching probation

Police also said the accused was already under probation for similar offences and had been banned from driving indefinitely.

Bigger Picture

Cases involving stolen humanitarian aid often draw strong public reaction because donations intended for disaster victims are delayed or disrupted when theft occurs.
