Commuting between Brampton and Toronto is becoming easier in 2026, with GO Transit adding more train service on weekends along the Kitchener Line.
A total of 18 new trips have been introduced between Bramalea GO Station and Union Station, improving travel options for riders heading into and out of Toronto.
Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said the additional trips represent another step toward two-way, all-day GO train service on the Kitchener Line. However, no timeline has been announced for when full all-day service will be implemented.
The expanded service began in late November.
The Kitchener Line serves multiple communities, including Guelph, Acton, Georgetown, Mount Pleasant GO, Brampton, Malton GO, Etobicoke North GO, and Union Station in downtown Toronto.
According to the province, the service expansion is made possible through an agreement with CN, which includes the purchase of land to allow construction of dedicated GO tracks along the corridor.
The Ontario government says the improvements are part of the broader Kitchener Extension Project, aimed at delivering faster, two-way, all-day service on the line. The project includes approximately 40 kilometres of new two-way track, as well as track realignments, signal upgrades, bridge work, and platform expansions.
Once the project is complete, the province says riders can expect major service improvements, including:
- Bramalea GO Station: Two-way, all-day service, seven days a week
- Mount Pleasant GO Station: 30-minute, two-way, all-day service, seven days a week, with additional peak-hour trains to Union Station in the morning and Mount Pleasant in the evening
- Kitchener GO Station: 60-minute, two-way, all-day service, seven days a week, with additional peak-hour trains to Union Station in the morning and Kitchener in the evening
GO Transit also expanded Kitchener Line service on Nov. 23, introducing several immediate improvements. These include 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station, providing service every 30 minutes, and the extension of four existing weekend trips from Mount Pleasant GO to Kitchener GO — marking the first time weekend GO train service has been offered to Kitchener.
Weekday service has also increased, with two new weekday trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station, two existing weekday trips extended to Bramalea GO from Malton GO, and one existing weekday trip extended to Kitchener GO from Guelph Central GO.
Provincial officials say the enhancements are designed to better meet growing demand and lay the groundwork for a more frequent, reliable regional rail network across the Greater Toronto Area and southwestern Ontario.
