Alessia Cara to Headline Brampton’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, Honoured With Arts Walk of Fame Induction

Grammy and JUNO Award–winning singer Alessia Cara will headline the City of Brampton’s New Year’s Eve celebration this year, marking a homecoming for the Brampton-born artist.

Cara will perform at Garden Square on Dec. 31 as part of the city’s annual festivities and will also be inducted into Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame the same evening. The program, established in 2014, recognizes artists who have achieved excellence in their fields, brought pride to the Brampton community and inspired future generations, according to the city.

“It feels very full circle to come back and play a show where I started 10 years ago,” Cara said in a written statement. “I’m excited to ring in the new year in my hometown.”

The New Year’s Eve celebration will feature an outdoor concert, food vendors and a 10-minute fireworks display at midnight. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Garden Square and along Main Street North, the city said in a news release.

Mayor Patrick Brown said the city is proud to welcome Cara back to Brampton.

“With her induction into Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame, we’re honouring both her global success and her deep Brampton roots,” Brown said.

In its release, the city described Cara’s career as one defined by honesty, emotional depth and a strong connection with audiences worldwide, noting that her music blends pop, soul and singer-songwriter influences.

The New Year’s Eve event is sponsored by Tim Hortons, Bell and CAA.
